Planning a late retirement?

Not everyone wants to retire when they're only age 65. I know I don't! We talk to a lot of people who plan to work well into their 60's and even their 70's. I think this is a great plan, so long as you still accumulate a nest egg just in case....

Raising Money Smart Kids

We had fun talking about how to teach kids money smarts tonight on NECN. Allowances are always a hot topic with the parents I talk to. One important approach is to set a regular, consistent allowance amount -- say $1 per week, per year of age -- and then help the child plan their saving and spending within that amount.  Don't make the allowance contingent on completing household chores, remember, the goal is to give them a cash flow that you can help them manage.

Wedding plans that won't break the bank

The buzz this segment created in the newsroom was pretty amazing, but not surprising. It seemed everyone had a comment or a story to share...even RD Sahl!

We at Compass Planning hear a lot from financial planning clients who wish they'd thought more closely about their wedding event goals and planned better. It's easy to get wrapped-up in the emotion of the event and over-spend.

Don't get me wrong! I'm not anti-wedding - Bill and I happily celebrated our 19th anniversary last week - I'm just anti-unintentional spending.
